Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4 we offer AQA GCSE in Drama. In lessons, students will gain a practical understanding of the dramatic skills which can be used to communicate with an audience.

Students will apply and adapt their skills and experiment with dramatic techniques to perform roles with creativity and originality.

The content of the course is varied and students will explore the methodologies of drama practitioners, experiment with a range of styles and techniques, improvise, devise, and analyse and evaluate live theatre performances. The strong creative element requires students to create group pieces in response to stimuli designed to explore feelings, ideas and the world around us.

The subject content for GCSE Drama is divided into three components:

· Understanding Drama - roles and responsibilities of theatre makers, staging styles, study of a set text, analyse and evaluate live theatre.

· Devising Drama - Work in groups to create a performance in response to a stimulus. Compete a written logbook documenting the process of creation to final performance.

· Texts in Practice - Performance of two extracts from 1 play.

Key Stage 5

At Key stage 5 we offer AQA A Level Drama and Theatre. The skills, knowledge and understanding gained at GCSE is extended through the A Level curriculum, as students explore a wider range of practitioners, create and shape performance work and think analytically and evaluate work.

Students devise drama following the practices of a key practitioner, practically explore two set texts considering all production aspects including acting, directing and design, work on text-based performances applying the techniques and ideologies of practitioners to their work and analyse and evaluate live theatre.
