In years 7 & 8 students are set in ability groups and will discover how to develop their performance in a number of practical activities such as netball, football, basketball, fitness, cricket, rounders and athletics. They will also be given the opportunity to develop their ability to lead/coach and officiate through student led activities/lessons. Students are assessed through our bronze, silver and gold assessment criteria.
Core Physical Education
Students will have 2 hours of core PE a week, during which they will cover a wide range of sports and activities aimed at promoting enjoyment, core fitness, coaching and officiating.

Students at Key Stage 4 are required to wear full PE kit for all lessons.
GCSE Physical Education
Students will follow the AQA GCSE Physical Education specification. This includes a wide variety of areas to cover, such as:
The course has a mix of practical and theory lessons; students will find a lot of the theory is also taught with a practical element to reinforce learning.
We also offer the NCFE VCERT level1/2 technical award alongside the GCSE. This qualification is designed for learners who want an introduction to Health and Fitness that includes a vocational and project-based element. The qualification will appeal to learners who wish to pursue a career in the Health and Fitness sector or progress onto further study.
The V Cert Technical Awards are DfE approved, broad, high-quality, rigorous level 1 and level 2 qualifications that equip learners with applied knowledge and associated practical skills not usually acquired through general education.
The course is split into two units
Introduction to Body Systems and Principles of Training in Health and Fitness (K/616/7093) which is an exam unit that is taken in year 10.
Preparing and Planning for Health and Fitness (M/616/7094) which is a coursework unit that is completed during year 11.
BTEC Sport Level 3
The Pearson BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport is an Applied General qualification for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment in the sport sector. The qualification is equivalent in size to one A Level.
What does this qualification cover?
The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with academics to ensure that it supports progression to higher education. Employers and professional bodies have also been involved and consulted to confirm that the content is appropriate and consistent with current practice for learners who may choose to enter employment directly in the sport sector.
Learners will also choose one optional unit from a range which has been designed to support choices in progression to sport courses in higher education, and to link with relevant occupational areas.
Learners will study three mandatory units:
• Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology
• Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being
• Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry.
Trips
We also offer opportunities for students to go on Trips throughout their time at Trinity. This includes trips to international football matches, Wimbledon and ski trips.
