Psychology

At Trinity students can choose Psychology as one of their A Level options.

As a post – 16 option, all students choosing Psychology will have very minimal knowledge of what exactly Psychology is. Despite this, it is one of the most popular options at Trinity. Our aim as a department is to ensure that our students leave us with a detailed understanding on a range of topics within Psychology, with the fundamental question of ‘why do humans behave in the way they do?’ being answered in a number of different ways.

Students follow the AQA A Level Psychology specification, which covers a number of core and optional topics across three exam papers. All papers are 2 hours in length, and the course aims to expose students to as many forms of Psychology as possible.

Paper 1 - Introductory Topics to Psychology (core)

  • Social Influence
  • Memory
  • Attachment
  • Psychopathology

Paper 2 - Psychology in Context (core)

  • Approaches in Psychology
  • Biopsychology
  • Research Methods

Paper 3 - Issues and Options in Psychology;

  • Issues and debates (core)
  • Relationships
  • Schizophrenia
  • Forensic Psychology

The course is very much focused on research and the scientific approach, with students learning an array of content from key studies such as the Stanford Prison Experient to understanding why psychologists choose certain research methods.

Due to the range and nature of topics, students enjoy Psychology with many students progressing to University from the A Level course.
