Citizenship

Citizenship allows students to gain a detailed understanding of the social and political make up of the United Kingdom, and it’s place in the world in the 21st Century.

Students have the opportunity to select GCSE Citizenship as part of their KS4 Options (all students at Trinity must choose either Citizenship or Religious Studies).

At Trinity, students study the AQA GCSE Citizenship specification which covers the four following areas:

  • Active Citizenship
  • Politics and Participation

  • Life in Modern Britain

  • Rights and Responsibilities

Students gain a wealth of knowledge about the social and political make up of the UK, as well as learning key forms of Active Citizenship to see how they can make a significant impact to their local community. As part of the specification, students are expected to undertake a form of Active Citizenship. At Trinity, we work with West Berks Food Bank where students get to hear directly from them about the incredible work they do, and then help with a food donation that the school completes at Christmas time.

Students are assessed throughout the course using a range of exam techniques, and ultimately learn to write extended answers which cover key topical debates in Britain today (i.e. Is prison effective? How can citizens hold people in power to account?)

At the end of the course, students sit two exam papers, both 1 hour and 45 minutes each, and gain the GCSE in Citizenship.
